Faculty
Director – Gabrielle Brydges
As a conductor, performer and ethnomusicologist, Gabrielle blends her
diverse range of experiences into her approach to choral music and the
female voice.

Gabrielle grew up in the Durham Region where she was supported by a
musical family and was actively involved in the community music scene.
She was a member of the Oshawa Festival Singers (Durham Girls’ Choir)
as well as the Durham Philharmonic Choir and other community groups.

Gabrielle earned her Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis on vocal music from the
University of Western Ontario. Throughout her undergraduate years, she was involved in
many University vocal ensembles, the London Symphony Orchestra Choir as well as Musical
Theatre Productions of London. To further her love of vocal music, Gabrielle decided to
pursue further education from Sabhal Mor Ostaig University in Scotland as well as the
Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts. She is currently completing her Masters of
Music Education from the University of Western Ontario where she is incorporating her
enjoyment of the Gaelic Waulking tradition of Cape Breton into her research.

Active in the Durham Region as a private teacher as well as a public school teacher, Gabrielle
brings her love of music to youth in the community. Gabrielle has studied voice with Elsie
Drygala and Anita Krause-Wiebe and is currently studying with Lorna Brain. As well as
singing opera, Gabrielle also enjoys music theatre and has performed with Donny Osmond in
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Gabrielle has performed as a guest soloist at
the Toronto Heliconian Club, the Highlands of Durham Games, the Living Arts Centre with
Jubilant Singers and at various churches in the Durham Region. Gabrielle’s eclectic taste
extends to all forms of vocal music.

Gabrielle has been involved with the Durham Girls Choir for 18 years. She was a chorister
for ten years, an assistant conductor of the Junior Choir as well as an auxiliary percussionist.
Gabrielle is looking forward to working with the choir and being a mentor to young
musicians in the Durham Region.
